Tóm tắt: | Meningioma is the most common type of primary tumors of the central nervous system [1]. Among this, petroclival meningiomas presents a formidable challenge. As most petroclival meningiomas are histopathologically benign, slow-growing and clinically manifested in great variety, most patients are diagnosed when the lesions have reached significant size with complicated involvement of adjacent structures. Early diagnosis of this pathology before its aggressive behavior eases the treatment and then reduces medical consequences. Therefore, understanding its clinical and imaging presentation is crucial. The characteristics of being deep-seated, proximity and adhesion to cranial nerves, major blood vessels and brainstem used to makes petroclival meninigomas considered unresectable due to high postoperative morbidity and mortality. However, the development of microsurgical techniques in recent decades has changed the concept and surgery has gradually become the mainstay of treatment. On the other hand, the evolution of radiosurgery also brings new treatment options with positive result [2]. Therefore, treatment algorithm for petroclival meningioma is still controversial and more research on the subject is necessary. There have been a number of studies on meningiomas in Vietnam but few of them have addressed petroclival meningiomas specifically. Therefore, we conducted the study “Outcome of petroclival meningiomas operated at Viet Duc University Hospital” with two objectives: 1. To describe clinical, magnetic resonance imaging features of petroclival meningiomas 2. To evaluate outcome of petroclival meningiomas operated at Viet Duc University Hospital |
