Đây là nghiên cứu đầu tiên tại khu vực Tây Nguyên nói chung, tại Tỉnh Đắk Lắk nói riêng và là một trong số ít các nghiên cứu răng miệng chuyên biệt về người cao tuổi ở Việt Nam.. Nghiên cứu mô tả cắt ngang là một phần của đề tài cấp Bộ: “Nghiên cứu thực trạng bệnh răng miệng ở người cao tuổi Việt Nam”. Nghiên cứu đánh giá thực trạng bệnh răng miệng, nhu cầu điều trị và một số yếu tố liên quan bằng bộ câu hỏi phỏng vấn và bệnh án theo mẫu của Tổ chức Y tế Thế giới năm 1997, được bổ sung năm 2013 và điều tra sức khỏe răng miệng toàn quốc lần 1 năm 1990, lần 2 năm 2000.. Bằng một số biện pháp đơn giản, dễ thực hiện (truyền thông giáo dục sức khỏe và điều trị sâu răng, bệnh quanh răng) nghiên cứu đã cho thấy hiệu quả can thiệp khá tốt mặc dù mới chỉ tiến hành trong thời gian ngắn: tỷ lệ sâu mới và sâu tái phát thấp, tỷ lệ miếng trám thành công cao, giảm tỷ lệ người cao tuổi có nhu cầu điều trị bệnh quanh răng, thay đổi kiến thức, thái độ, thực hành chăm sóc sức khỏe răng miệng theo hướng tích cực.. Nghiên cứu đã phổ biến cho người cao tuổi chải răng bằng phương pháp Toothpick. Đây là phương pháp chải răng phù hợp với quá trình lão hóa sinh lý răng ở người cao tuổi.. This is the first study in Central Highlands region in general and in Dak Lak province in particular and is one of the few specific oral studies on the elderly in Vietnam.. This cross-sectional study is a part of the ministry-level research project "Research on the condition of oral diseases of Vietnamese older people" which is a review of oral health conditions, treatment demands, and some related factors using World Health Organization’ questionnaire and clinical report in 1997 forms, supplemented in 2013 and the first national oral health survey in 1990, the second one in 2000.. By some simple, easy-to-implement measures (health education and treatment of cavities and periodontitis) the study has shown good interventions in only a short time: low incidence rates of tooth decay and recurring, high success rate of tooth filling, reduced percentage of elderly people needing to treat periodontal disease, changes of knowledge, attitudes and practice of oral health care in a positive way.. Through this research, the older people has been introduced to using the Toothpick method to brush their teeth.
